Custom Font & Logotype Design

I love letters. To me they’re like fingerprints, each with unique characteristics, stories to tell, and work to get done. Whether I’m making a few glyphs or a full alphabet, I take pride in designing something unique but more importantly, functional. I am currently available for commissioned/contract projects.

How I Got Here

I started to design fonts after years of brand identity work and web interfaces (yes, even Flash). I've been a freelance graphic designer in Ithaca, New York for almost fifteen years. Making letters from scratch is one of my favorite things to do. The closest analog equivalent of a website is a book or at the very least a brochure. But you can take fonts offline, print custom words as big as a car, cut letters into metal, and carve a logotype into wood. Letters go everywhere, and I enjoy drawing them almost every day.

Occassionally I will post type tutorials or quick letter sketches to my YouTube channel. I’m actively expanding and updating several fonts on this page, all of which are on my GitHub profile. My work has been used by Penguin Random House, Scholastic, Vice, Toms, Comedy Central, E! Entertainment, HBO, Buzzfeed, Threadless, Amazon Publishing, Houghton Mifflin, Dartmouth College, and @barackobama.

Fonts I've Set Free

With the exception of Southpaw, all typefaces below are open source and can be downloaded right now. † Junction, League Gothic, and League Spartan were collaborative.

Or if you just want to say “hi” that is great, too 👋 I'm currently accepting commissioned font projects, logotype designs, and conversion of existing analog letters (scanned) into installable fonts.
